Blocked account for students in Italy: how it works and required documents

International students applying to study in Italy must show that they can support themselves. A blocked account may be one option, but it is not automatically a universal requirement: the exact evidence depends on the visa type, the consulate and the current checklist.

What is a blocked account?

Funds are deposited with a financial provider and released under agreed conditions. The certificate should identify the student, the amount, the covered period, withdrawal rules, fees and refund terms.

Check the requirement before paying

Before transferring money, check the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa portal and the embassy or consulate checklist. Confirm whether the issuer and format are accepted.

Documents to prepare

1. Admission or enrolment proof.
2. Passport details matching the financial contract.
3. Official account certificate with amount, currency and availability period.
4. Source-of-funds evidence when requested.
5. Accommodation and insurance documents where required.
